Project ARA

This is a project initiated by Google. This is primarily used to reduce e-wastes. This project will reduce the entry barrier for “hardware developers” so that there will be many developers instead of depending on big manufacturers.
This project has been aimed for 6 million people. This works on a spiral2 developer hardware. Marvel processors are about to be used in this phone. All it has is primarily an endoskeleton which incorporates unipro switch. The modules are fixed in to the endoskeleton using electro magnetism. This uses linero android as an operating system.  greatest advantage with this is that the modules can be shared with family friends.

Thus we don’t have to buy phone for camera but camera for phone. The endoskeleton accepts all the modules of appropriate dimensions. In project ARA a medium sized phone is at a size of nexus5,whereas small one is at a size of nokia3310,the large one is at a size of Samsung galaxy note3.It is 9.7mm thick, usually thicker than smartphones. Data from the modules can be transferred at about 10gbps.More specialised features such as laser pointers and recipient printers are about to come as modules.

  • ·       What makes Project Ara different from other mobile devices? Why would I want a modular phone?

With a modular platform, you can pick the camera you want for your phone rather than picking your phone for the camera. could have a sensor to test if water is clean. You could have a battery that lasts for days. Replace a broken display. Modules can be hot-swapped without turning the phone off

  • More likely this is an assembled phone. By this we can get quality mobile at low cost. Entry-level Ara device to be in the $50-100 range. It’s important to note that this is just the cost of the components and says nothing about how it will be priced--it could be more or less than that). In the end, it is expected that module developers will be able to set the prices for their modules sold in the Ara Module Marketplace, much like mobile app developers do in app stores.
